FAQ’s

  • Marine canvas is a tough fabric made to protect watercraft or keep guests comfy. It’s usually made from acrylic or vinyl-coated fibers for durability in sun, salt, rain, and rough conditions. Many cheaper canvases mix in polyester, which can wear out faster without you knowing. Good marine canvas helps prevent sun damage, resists water, and stops colors from fading — that means less cleaning for you when it’s boating day, while making your boat look great.

  • Most canvas products you find online are made to generic sizes — not your boat. Even if it’s labeled for your exact model, one small difference — like a rail, bracket, snap, zipper, or support pole — can throw everything off. And when it doesn’t fit, you’re stuck returning it (if you can) and wasting time. Custom canvas is made for your boat and your setup, so it fits right, lasts longer, looks better and saves you the hassle. We often have colors too that are hard to find premanufactured.

  • It really depends. A simple repair might take a day, while a full enclosure could take a few weeks. Timelines vary based on the size of the project, current workload, and factors like shipping or material availability. I’ll always give you a realistic estimate up front and keep you in the loop as we go.

  • Yes. I repair canvas products, including covers, enclosures, biminis, snaps, straps, and more. If the material still has life left in it, we can sometimes patch, restitch, or reinforce it instead of replacing the whole thing. That said, repairs can be tricky — especially if the original material is worn out or damaged, or wasn’t built well to begin with. Send some pictures and I’ll take a look to give you an honest opinion on whether it’s worth fixing or better to start fresh.

  • Getting started is easy. Reach out by phone, email, or the contact form on the website to tell me about your project. From there, we’ll schedule a time to assess your boat, discuss your needs, and take measurements. I’ll guide you through the options and provide a detailed quote before any work begins.

  • We’re a mobile service — we come to you. Since we don’t have onsite storage, your boat stays where it is. There just needs to be enough space around the boat to do the work comfortably. If your boat is in a wet slip or lake house, please let us know ahead of time so we can plan accordingly. If it’s in dry storage or on a trailer, we just need a little room to walk around and/or put up small ladders to reach the difficult spots as needed.

  • No problem! I can install marine-grade stainless steel snaps and hardware on your boat to make attaching covers easy and secure. I can also replace old worn out ones with new.

  • Item description“Marine-grade” refers to materials specifically designed to withstand harsh marine environments. This means fabrics and hardware that resist or block UV damage, mildew, water penetration, and fading.

TRU Canvas takes this a step further. We use brand name materials such as Sunbrella, Strataglass, DOT fasteners, YKK Zippers, and Solarfix Lifetime Thread.

  • Yes — all new projects by TRU Canvas include a workmanship warranty and a manufacturer’s material warranty based on the products used. Warranty details can be discussed during your consultation.
